I''m just curious if anyone has used different category templates on there website and if so could you share the website and how well it worked out?

We have a huge variety of products so it may make sense for us to have a different theme on some pages or for the hard to rank for SEO terms change the H1 tag to something more than the H1 category name. Why Google likes using that for the title puzzles me.

have you tried to change the category formatting? i think vpasp has documentation on it on their design guide http://www.vpasp.com/virtprog/VPCart_800_Design_Guide.zip, search for "category formatting".
