-set Xcartspecialhandling to yes.
-set Xcartspecialhandlingfield to level3
-edit ur products, on the field Other Fields 3, u can enter x,xxx
x = how many items buys to get free
xxx = the free product
if you enter 3,1889 that means buy 3 got a free product id 1889.
Diego.

Thanks,
I don't think this works for category.
What I want is: You buy 3 products from the same category and get a fourth product for free.

Any ideas?

Hi poldy,
this would be quite difficult to implement as some products can belong to more than one category. Why not consider a quantity discount based on the category? Buy 3 or more from the same category and get 20% off? It's a lot easier to set up

This is indeed very tricky to code-up from scratch, but luckily we've got an addon that'll do it:

MultiBuy Discounts for VPASP - BYZ168:
http://www.bigyellowkey.com/multi-buy-discounts-for-vpasp-from-bigyellowzone-byz168.asp

For that, you specify what the criteria is for a given "discount shelf" (eg a list of categoryids etc), and then you specify what discounts are relevant to products on that "shelf", eg buy-one-get-one-free, buy-3-get-one-half-price etc etc. It uses the same logic that a physical store uses when it has those kind of discount shelves.

The easiest way to picture how it works is to think of a physical store that has different "shelves", because that's basically the logic that it uses.
