Having trouble getting running on Vista.

I have installed IIS. and then ran through the vpasp instructions here...
http://www.vpasp.com/helpnotes/shopexd.asp?id=914#install

checked and got an error and a link to go to a blog to do this..
%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd set config -section:asp -scriptErrorSentToBrowser:true

so now I have this message on "enter store"...

ADODB.Connection error '800a0e78'

Operation is not allowed when the object is closed.

/shopping/shop$db.asp, line 1426

and in "admin login"....

ADODB.Connection error '800a0e78'

Operation is not allowed when the object is closed.

/shopping/shopadmin.asp, line 144

I did all the other stuff (microsoft workaround listed in vpasp instructions) still no change to the error.

oh line 1426 is
"Set irs=conn.execute(isql)"

line 144
" Set rs = myconn.Execute(SQL)"

Thank you. Any help would be amazing. I have no idea what i'm doing with IIS or ASP or anything at all. Thanks!!

daniel

Hi Daniel,

I was having the same issue and the fix for me was applying the permissions to the temp folder.

From the help note:

You may also experience a slightly different error message indicating that the "Operation is not allowed when the object is closed."

To resolve this try the following:

1. Navigate to c:\windows\serviceprofiles\networkservice\appdata\local\temp
2. Right click on the folder, select Properties.
3. Click the tab labelled Security.
4. Click the Edit button then the Add button.
5. Type the name IUSR. Click OK.
6. It will be listed in the list of user names - select it
7. In the box below showing "Permissions for IUSR", make sure the "Full control" box is ticked.
8. Click OK.

If you cannot view the c:\windows\serviceprofiles\networkservice\appdata\local\temp folder it is a hidden folder so you will need to enable the viewing of hidden folders by doing the following:

1. Open Control Panel
2. Click on Folder Options
3. Click the "View" tab
4. Make sure the option for "Hidden Files and Folders" is set to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"

Hope this helps

Thanks
Cam

Thanks everyone...I've looked up the error 800a0e78. I have no knowledge of asp or iis so i'm lost. I tried a couple things but it just made things worse.

I started over, deleted cart, uninstalled iis. Redid everything followed Cam's directions....and it still comes up with the same error.

While redoing everything I noticed a possible problem (probably nothing). On the "setting up on vista" page...
http://www.vpasp.com/helpnotes/shopexd.asp?id=914

the section for setting up iis on vista, and the image between 5. and 6. The image doesn't seem to coincide with the directions.
It doesn't let me know what i should tick in "IIS 6 Management Compatibility".

Just a thought. Thanks again for the help.

Cam's excellent writeup helped me set up VPASP on Vista Home Premium.... I had the "Operation is not allowed when the object is closed" error on my install as well. I was running Access, as info.

Thanks for the help and for this forum!
