You might like this addon, it generates nicely named folders and files etc, and it also comes with other bits included (admin category tree screen etc)....

Simon,
I would prefer not to be forced into buying a addon especially when in english pounds! , (no disrespect thanks for making one though!)

I am using 5 or 6 addons from BYZ and every one of them has been excellent value at the listed price.

I don't yet use the addon being discussed here, but I'm sure it would cost thousands to develop from scratch, so I don't believe that it is overpriced.

You can change the pricing on their site into USD if that is a more familiar.

thanks for the kind words peter; much appreciated!

yes, indeed, it would cost a fortune if you were to develop that asp-generator logic from scratch; somewhere between 6 man-months and 1 man-year would be my guess. also, it includes various other useful addons within the bundle (admin category tree, prod/cat check/fix tool etc)

the main difference between purchasing an addon, and having custom-development done, apart from the massive difference in cost, is that if purchasing an addon then if you have problems/questions/requests then you get proper/full support for it, and, for example, if there's a specific permutation of the setup/addon that you find isn't working quite right or something you'd like added, then instead of having to spend money on development you can just raise a support ticket and it'd normally end up getting sorted out on the generic addon and you'd then get the update/fix for it.

My problem is that i just spend $500 on VPASP and now having to spend an extra $200 For proper SEO would really be me taking the piss. I know of comparable carts that are free with the most basic of seo as one of the build in features.

Is VP that hard to develop for ? Damm that sucks for developers

the asp-generator that we did is the exception to the rule; it took a lot longer than pretty much anything that a normal developer/site would want to do, purely because the logic behind the scenes that it needs to use is deceptively complex to get it generating all the right asp code using its template files and to physically generate the right files/folders with all the right links between them all; it was a huge task.

Dunpeal,

We do have SEO built into VP-ASP already. You can find info on setting this up in our User Guide which you can download from:

http://www.vpasp.com/helpnotes/

There are a number of tools available out of the box for SEO.

The first is the ability to generate static html pages that are called for example productname.htm

You can create an entire category tree down to the product level using this tool.

The next utility allows you to have dynamic titles, meta keywords and descriptions per product.

BYZ's tools are very popular amongst VP-ASP users as well if you want to go the extra step.

Please keep in mind though that no matter what tools you use on your site you still need to ensure the content is optimized for search engines and your site is built in such a way as to be easily navigable so the spiders can make their way through without hindrance.

Optimizing your site takes a LOT of hard work and if you employ a SEO specialist a lot of money.

Thanks
Cam
