I''ve just completed a test upgrade run for VPASP 7.0 to VPCart 8.0. Basically I set up VPCart 8.0 in a different host, backup the MSSQL DB from our live VPASP 7 site, restore into the VPCart test site, ran upgrade DB and then reconfigured all the settings, custom templates, custom codes, etc and re-test.
Everything seems to be ok now. However the test db is now a couple days outdated and there are new orders in the live DB.
My question is whether it''s better to repeat the DB backup/restore/upgrade process or just import in the new orders? I presume there''ll be child oitems to include with the new orders which may make the import tricky.
Anyone''s thought? |

my suggestion is do the upgrade but using the same DB with the live site, as far as i know, vp7 and vp8 have different DB structure, so you cannot just backup and restore the database. |

Hi Jack,
I would run the upgrade on your live database after you have made a new backup just for safetys sake.
The upgrade wizard will create new config and new layout manager tables so the operation of version 8 does not interfere with the live store.
Hope this helps!
Thanks

Yes to what Cam said. When creating my test area, I duplicated our live V7 and then did the v8 upgrade. All data from V7 was in tact.
