I have run Vp-asp for several years. I have purchased v8 and space on a new server (much cheaper!). I would like your input on the best way to handle setting up the new store so I retain the product information.

I look forward to good discussion on this topic!

Thanks!!

Hi Aprilynn:

I''ve been running several stores with VPASP since version 3 or 4. Over the years I''ve been upgrading from one version to the next, not doing a new/clean install. This has lead to a continually increasing number of files and massive hard drive space for each website.

For Version 8 I did a clean install in a new directory. The update of my Access DBase was very easy and worked without error so all my categories, products and content pages were retained.

My websites are now taking up a fraction of the hard drive space and I know that all files are only Version 8 files.

If you are upgrading ONLY from Version 7 to Version 8 then I probably wouldn''t install from scratch. In my case all the ''clutter'' from versions prior to Version 7 made a clean install the best option for my sites.

Hope this helps!
Dale

Hi Aprilynm, Hi Dale!

I´ve have upgraded from ver 6.5 to 8 and I have had to make minor fixes, but the 2 sites I updated are working great and I have not lost any incoming links, data, etc The bigger site, has 600 id´s and 230mb of disk space 3700 files, running on a 20mb ACCESS DB.

Anyway, you can test it and if you have problems updating you can make a new clean install

Have you seen that 8.00.9 is already available?

Saludos
Diego
