I have been working with VPASP for over 9 years (since version 4.0) and I find this section of the customer accounts actually returns the customer order status data about 50 percent of the time. We are looking at disabling it because in it''s current state it''s normally more frustrating to customers than it is useful.

Is there plans to fixing this in version 8?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve VPASP being able to find a customers order?

Hi there,

Do you have xcheckexistingcustomer set to Yes in the config?

The only reason an order will not show up is if it has been associated with a different user in the database.

For example if a customer purchases using one email email address the first time and then when they return instead of logging in they create a new account.

If they do this then there is no easy way for the system to know that 2 customers account actually belong to the one person unfortunately.

If you have any ideas on how to deal with that sort of situation please let me know.

Thank you.

We''ve got several double inscriptions in our customer database due to the use of different email addresses, or sometimes by writing errors in the email address.

Is there a way to merge two existing customer accounts to one account?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Kind regards,

Erik

Hi Erik,

Not easily unfortunately.

When we do it we use the bulk update tool and have an admin browser open in 2 different browsers so we can run multiple sessions and then manually copy and paste the details.

Thank you.

Hmm... well we have had xcheckexistingcustomer set to yes for the 9 years I have been running the website. I know this as customers occasionally contact us to say that they tried making a new account and it tells them that they have to log in. To be sure I double checked and the xcheckexisitingcustomer is still set to yes.

Cam,

Wouldn''t it be sufficient to unify the ocustomerid in the orders placed by the same customer having different accounts, allowing the customer to consult or to restore all previous orders under the last created account?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Erik

I agree with Erik. Assuming that you know all of the ocustomerids belonging to the same customer then a fairly simple SQL statement to update the previous ocustomerids with the current ocustomerid in the orders table would allow the existing customer to review all previous orders.

Hi Carrol,

True. We update everything though rather than just customer ID and I find it easier to have different sessions running to speed things up a bit.

But you certainly can just update the customer id in all orders to use one customer account.

@FCS - If a customer comes in using a different email account the system cannot easily catch them. If they use same email and surname then it ill let them know they have an existing account.

Thank you.
