Is it actually true VPASP does not work with go daddy unless you get the deluxe version?

i must have missed that on that on the feature comparison, but i googled why i couldn't get the site running and that seemed my most probable answer. any thoughts?

I had set up a vpasp plus store on Godaddy hosting before. Vpasp definitely works on GoDaddy just that it require a lot of work to set it up.

Maybe I was just unlucky and they put me into a crappy server. The problem is not with the shopping cart but more on the the hosting environment on GoDaddy. It's pain in the ass to set up folder permssions, e-mail server is very unreliable, their supports are not helpful at all most of the time.

If I were you, I would look for an alternative hosting provider. Don't even bother to look at 1&1 as well.

Hi there,

You can use GoDaddy with VPASP but only on their top level package.

Anything lower will involve way too many sites being on the server and this will cause problems with the site.

Thanks

Like most things, some people have good luck while others have bad. I have 9 VPASP sites running on GoDaddy Windows hosting. Each is on a shared server but most are on the top end shared package. It'll work on the low end package, but you are limited on resources and may have issues.

Overall, I like it. I've been there about 2 years now after getting fed up with my past 3 vendors.

PROS: I like their control panel and it has been updated a few times since I've been with them. The file permissions interface I find easy to use. Once you get used to their online MS SQL mgr tool, I think it is easy to use. You can kick off your own MS SQL backup, download it, and restore at your leisure.

For the small to mid-sized carts, the performance is just fine. My largest client has about 3,500 products and gets a few hundred orders concentrated in our state during daylight hours.

CONS: You only get to correspond with 1st Level tech support who have to be a jack of all trades. Sometimes you get lucky and get someone that is actually techy. If you need to escalate a problem to 2nd line, you never get to look at the ticket details and their company response is "they'll look at it within 72 hours". Now from personal experience, they have usually gotten to in sameday or next day.

As of last month, I have only had 1 real performance issue. After numerous tickets, I was able to insist the site be moved to a different server. They did it without arguing and my problem was fixed.

I have another client that was with 1and1. I hated it. Tech support was slow. I couldn't get a MS SQL server to get created using their control panel, and after 8 solid days of them not fixing, my client finally moved to Alentus. At the same time, we were trying to install an SSL cert. Was taking days and days.

welp just for the update, my issues were 2 fold. I'm pretty sure i did infact need to go to the deluxe package which was only 2 dollars more a month, and then there is the dunce cap issue. I didnt notice that when i had set the site up i had left it at the defautl linux hosting and needed to change to a windows server for asp support.

i noticed as i was looking at the features list. i'm like yea deluxe windows hosting thats the leve where all the asp features start, looked back at what i had... linux... whoops!
