We all know everybody loves a bargain, especially online shoppers. Therefore offering promotions is an effective method of converting visitors to your website into customers.
There are lots of different promotions you can offer - buy one get one free, money off, free gift etc but do you know the effectiveness of these promotions?
Internet Retailer Magazine recently ran a survey asking online shoppers which online promotions persuaded them to purchase, the results are below:
- UNCONDITIONAL FREE SHIPPING - 73%
- FREE RETURNS - 70%
- SALES AND SPECIALS - 62%
- COUPONS FOR CASH OR PERCENTAGE OFF - 56%
- PERCENTAGE OFF PRICE OR PRODUCTS - 54%
- REWARDS / LOYALY POINTS - 46%
- LIMITED-TIME DEALS - 43%
- FREE SHIPPING BASED ON MINIMUM PURCHASE AMOUNT - 42%
- BUY MORE / SAVE MORE - 34%
- FREE GIFT - 31%
Offering free shipping / returns on ANY order amount is something you should offer carefully, perhaps only when launching a new product range.
If you do offer free shipping & returns, make sure you ADVERTISE it on the front of your website and even in your newsletter. You could perhaps offer special promotions such as ‘free shipping Saturdays’, try out a few ideas and see what works best for you.
